I Just Relapsed

You slipped. Your next step matters.

A calm place to pause, reflect, and reconnect.

A moment of care and honesty

Pause and reconnect.

Take a breath.

This moment does not define your worth or erase the effort you’ve made. Reaching for help takes courage.

A man rests a hand on his chest with his eyes closed in a quiet moment at home.
  1. 01

    Make space

Give yourself a little space from what you were viewing.

  2. 02

    Be honest with respect

You can be honest about your choice and its impact while treating yourself with respect. Taking responsibility does not require calling yourself hopeless or worthless.

  3. 03

    Reconnect

For now, pause and reconnect with what matters to you. Then, with curiosity, begin noticing what you were feeling before you turned to pornography.

The Counterfeit Emotions approach

In Counterfeit Emotions, we explore the difference between guilt and shame: acknowledging a choice you want to change without making that choice your identity.

Notice with honesty and curiosity

A short guided reflection.

Take a moment to look back with honesty and curiosity. You can think through these questions or write a few words. There’s no need for a perfect answer.

  1. What was happening, and what was I feeling?

Think about the moments before you turned to pornography. Were you feeling lonely, stressed, disappointed, disconnected, or something else?

  2. What was I hoping pornography would give me?

Relief? Comfort? Escape? A sense of connection?

  3. What might I have needed in that moment?

Consider whether you were looking for rest, reassurance, support, or an honest conversation.

  4. What choice would reflect the man I want to be?

Acknowledge what happened and its impact. Then identify one response you want to practice when that feeling comes again.

You are worthy of care as you take responsibility. Bring what you notice into the next step you choose.
